Lawrence Beck
Italian Gardens

On February 25, 2012 Sonnabend Gallery will open “Italian Gardens,” a show of new works by Lawrence Beck.

The Renaissance master architect Andrea Palladio, considered by many to be the father of western architecture and the neo-classical style, is the point of departure for the newest works in Beck’s ongoing “Italian Gardens” series of large scale, color photographs

The patinated ruins, statuary, villas and gardens in the Veneto region of Italy are photographed in an early morning light that provides both atmospheric softness and chiaroscuro definition. The motif is the same as that used by classical artists as a source of contemplation and inspiration, but here is used in a way that uniquely blurs the distinction between photography and painting.

The exhibition will continue through April 21.
Please contact the gallery for further information.
